Citizen obtains its satellite acquisition about 3 seconds faster than the Seiko Astron. Problem is that while the Seiko Astron updates once a day, the Citizen Satellite updates once in 3 days.
However, that’s on paper. According to users who have worked with these watches, the Seiko Astron actually updates once in 3 days while the Citizen Satellite Wave does that once in 6 days. This isn’t a unanimous opinion though.
We can’t really put one over the other when comparing these two as they have pretty similar features.

Well, the Seiko Astron is more expensive than the Citizen Satellite Wave, in most cases. This is not to say that it automatically makes the Citizen Satellite Wave the better choice in this case. Both these watches are quite great for their prices.
Considering that the Seiko Astron comes with a ceramic bezel and also better anti-reflective coating, it’s understandable why the Seiko Astron is more expensive than the Citizen Satellite Wave. These features, naturally, give the Astron watches an edge in appearance and durability.
So, if you do a price/value comparison, you find that, in the end, you get what you pay for.

This is usually done at super high temperatures to produce a synthetic material that is as hard as sapphire. Sapphire is a very hard material, ranking just below diamond at number 9 on the Mohs scale (rubi and sapphire are the corundum mineral in Mohs scale). Diamond ranks at number ten.
The only thing that’s different between synthetic sapphire and naturally-occurring sapphire is that the synthetic sapphire lacks the coloring agents that the naturally occurring sapphire has. So, synthetic sapphire is unable to give off that natural hue that gems usually have.
After the crystals have been obtained from the heating of aluminum oxide, the round masses are then sliced using saws with teeth coated in diamond. Afterwards, the sliced pieces are then ground and polished to form the watch crystals we know.
Usually when a watch crystal is made from synthetic sapphire, it is referred to as scratch-resistant or it might also be marketed as “virtually scratchproof.” Well, this is because synthetic sapphire is almost impossible to scratch.
“Almost impossible,” not “impossible.”
Diamond can scratch synthetic sapphire and so can silicon carbide, which ranks between a 9 and a 10 on Mohs scale. So, if you have an instrument that contains silicon carbide, it will definitely scratch the surfaces of these watches.
In comparing these two crystals, we’d say they are pretty much similar except that the anti-reflective coating on Seiko watches appear to be better. In fact, some have said that the coating is so good, you don’t even get to see the glass.
But then again, Seiko is the more expensive watch in this case. So, you get what you pay for, right?
